In my garden, cucumbers are plotting to take over the farm. You may think I say this in jest. May I assure you, I do not. Just yesterday I marched outside and sternly warned the little cucurbits to keep their tendrils to themselves. Having alloted four (yes, four) generous spaces for them to run as they pleased, I saw no reason whatsoever for those rascally intruders to wrap themselves around the corn, choke the zucchini and climb the pea fence. All this mischief happened while I was busy picking a mountain of string beans. I just can’t turn my back for a minute.

You must be giving them extra water—-look SO HEALTHY !!!!!
The mulch really keeps the soil moist and cool. This has been a great summer in the garden. Thanks for reading – so nice to hear from you!
I’m having the same problem with my cukes… my verbal attempts to reprimand them are less than effective and I don’t have the heart to cut them back, the vines look so happy.
The cucumbers seriously are out of control. I’m making pickles and relish, followed by more pickles and more relish!
Too cool! I can’t wait until I’m not renting anymore to start a real veggie garden. I did try a few things in my apartment’s backyard one year, the squash did the same thing, totally took over the whole spot, there was no holding it back. Then comes the problem of what to do with it all? I remember desperately trying to give it away, could only eat so much of it!
